Yellowstone National Park
Inside of Yellowstone the road between Madison Junction and Norris is closed. This prevents visitors from the West Gate from driving through the north part of the Park without having to detour south by way of Yellowstone Lake. Getting to the Lamar Valley will now take between three and a half to four hours from West Yellowstone. Therefore we will no longer be guiding day trips to this part of the park, nor will the information on the fishing report be very detailed, as I won’t be fishing the water myself. Construction should be finished in time for the winter season and 2o10 should see things back to normal.
Madison River (Yellowstone National Park) 9-22-09
There has been a pretty good push of fish through the Madison in the Park from Hebgen Lake. Anglers are having success with nymphs, streamers and soft hackles. Early and late in the day have been the best times to be on the water as we have seen an unseasonably large amount of sun. As angling pressure continues to increase, it is important for folks fishing the Madison to show each other a little respect. Avoid entering a run below someone fishing downstream, give anglers space and don’t sit on a run without moving for long periods of time. There are plenty of fish to go around.
Firehole River 9-22-09
The Firehole has cooled down the last few days which should only help the fish and of course the fishing. Anglers are catching good numbers of fish swinging soft hackles in the riffles. Baetis and Caddis continue to hatch in the afternoons, giving the dry fly angler reason to celebrate. If we ever get a wet and cloudy day, run to the Firehole for the massive Baetis emergence, as it will be epic. In the meantime, enjoy the sparse hatches and free rising fish.
Gallatin River 9-22-2009
Terrestrial fishing on the Gallatin has slowed down, though there are some fish willing to rise to ants and hoppers on the sunny afternoons. Baetis hatches have been thin, but trout have been responsive to the small dries. Nymph fishing the deeper pockets can been effective when the dry fly action is slow.

I appreciate your comment on fishing etiquette on the Madison in YNP. Oh how I wish the guides would behave in a similar manner!
