I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend. We had a very cold, rainy and snowy weekend here. Some of our snowpack even jumped 10% over the past few days. This will make for some happy fish later in the summer. The Upper Madison continues to fish well as does Hebgen and Quake Lake. After these past cold/winter days, the temperature is supposed to hit the high 80's by this coming Saturday.
Right now the Upper Madison River is a nice milky green that makes for great fishing. I checked out the West Fork above Lyon's Bridge on Monday and it's still running pretty clear. But as the temps climb this week things will change and the run-off will definitely begin. Nymph fishing along the banks should be good along with chucking some streamers around. If you're floating from Lyons Bridge down be sure to check out the flows to make sure you can get under the small bridges.
The Team from MRO has been getting out on the Upper Madison a lot lately and we're also running guide trips. Montana's 14-day self-quarantine for non-residents expires on June 1st. Currently only the Wyoming East and South Entrances to Yellowstone National Park are open to visitors. You can only enter and exit the park through those two entrances. With Montana's self-quarantine expiring on June 1st we hope that they'll open the West entrance but as have now have not been told that it will.
