It’s finally feeling a little more like spring in the West Yellowstone and the Madison Valley.  We’ve had some nice sunny days with rainy days mixed in.  Temperatures have been getting close to the 70’s and the valley is starting to green up and the ice is starting to come off Hebgen and Quake Lake.  Runoff is also beginning with the West Fork of the Madison beginning to pump a little mud, but nothing too bad yet.  Most of the other feeder streams are still running pretty clear.

The gang from the fly shop has been out floating the Upper Madison River almost daily and having good luck with the fish.  Nymphing has been the most consistent but we’re getting a few fish on dries and streamers also.  If we get a few more warm days hopefully we’ll start to see some baetis start to hatch more consistently.
We are all excited about the fly shop opening up today.  The winter seemed long this year and spring was, well, we all know about spring.  We’ll be taking extra precautions to keep our staff and you safe.  Be sure to stop by the fly shop to say hi and pick up any fly fishing supplies you need.

Hebgen & Quake Lakes: The ice is now officially gone on both Hebgen & Quake. Its been very hit or miss but if you can time it right and get a day with little to no wind, the chironomid fishing has been pretty solid. Streamers have been moving some fish on the less than ideal condition days. Smaller midge nymphs like buzzers and ice cream cones have been the ticket though as of late.
