MRO Fly Fishing Report 10/27/2016
Upper Madison (Dam-Ennis)
This week we received some heavy rain and snowfall, Quake lake is off-color, as is the West Fork. The Madison below Quake is slightly off-color, which has slowed the dry-bite at times, but nymph and streamer fishing have been excellent.
If you're looking to throw dries on the Upper, I would recommend the Wade Section over Betwix. The big Quake Lake fish are certainly up in the river now, but don't necessarily eat dries this time of year like they do in June-July, Raynolds-Pine Butte is a better bet. arly afternoon. Top Baetis/BWO patterns have been the #18 Smokejumper, #16-18 DOA Cripple, #18 CDC BWO, #16-18 Purple Parachute.
You'll still find a few fish out in the mid--river riffles while floating, but more and more you're best nymphing is in the same water as dry-fly; bankside riffles, pockets, and slicks. With the water cooling down, these fish are moving into their winter lies. Guide choice nymphs are the #14 Biot Stone, #16 Purple Psycho Prince, #16 Lake Prince, #18 Crystal Dip, #16-18 Guide Dip, and #14-16 Red Serendipity. Leave your eggs at the farm.

Madison
Continuing to fish great as the water is slightly tea-stained. As you may have noticed with this report over the last month, not much has changed. We've been swinging the same flies through a lot of the same water, and it keeps producing beauty 18"+ Browns and Bows. Swinging flies requires a good amount of confidence, stick with it! Our favorite swinging flies are the #8 Orange, #10 PT, #8 Hare's Ear, #6 "The Swinger" Leech, #6 Rusty Squirrel Leech, and the #6 Olive Sparkle Minnow. Leave your eggs at the farm.
Firehole
If the water stays in decent shape, the Firehole (as usual) will be your best option to throw dry flies inside YNP for the final 2 weeks of the season. Have a good variety of BWO/Baetis adults and emergers. #12 Green/Partridge soft hackles are a great option on the days the Firehole fish aren't rising consistently.
