COVID-19 Response

Madison River Outfitters - View from $3 Bridge

To all our friends,

Our thoughts are with you and your families during these uncertain times. Now more than ever, we can all appreciate how small the world truly is and the importance of taking the necessary precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Even in normal times, our fly shop is closed for walk-in business from November through March. We have always reopened a week or two before Yellowstone Park opens in mid-April. At this time the Park is closed until further notice. The state of Montana has mandated that all but essential businesses be closed and that anyone entering the state for non-work-related purposes must undergo a self-imposed 14-day quarantine. These measures will remain in effect until at least April 10th* The Montana Governor has extended these measures until April 24th.

We man our office throughout the winter, taking phone calls, booking trips, answering emails, processing online orders and preparing for our spring opening.

Our business strategy is to remain positive and hopeful that life and business will get back to normal sooner than later. When it happens we will be ready with the same level of retail and professional guiding services we have been providing our valued customers since 1981.

The Madison River downstream from Quake Lake runs low and clear with pre-runoff conditions all through March and April. It is easy to practice social distancing while fishing the river and we have been getting out to enjoy the sport we love as often as we can. Whenever we go fishing we will share our experience and some photos with a fresh fishing report in the hope it will brighten your day.

If you would like to talk to us about fishing, our guide services, products we sell or anything at all, we will continue our office hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays until we are able to resume our normal business operation. We hope you stay healthy and look forward to seeing you again soon.

We will update this report as the current situation demands.

Hi Brad
Since we started fishing with you in 1979 there have been challenges. The motorcycle gangs of the eighties made fishing in the Park a little unsettling. The great Yellowstone fire of 1988 destroyed much of the greatest natural wonder on this planet. The whirling disease of the 1990s saw much of the rainbow trout population disappear. The great recession of 2008 placed hardships on most outdoor sportsman. Now we have the world virus pandemic. Likely for most of us the worst event of our lives. Through all of this, however, there always has been a light of hope that things would get better. Motorcycle enthusiasts became more friendly. The Park has grown back better than ever. And the rainbow trout are here to stay. History has shown us that in time with individual commitment and the combined strength of the American people all things are possible. We will overcome this challenge as we have in the past. We will again wade the beautiful rivers of Montana casting our files with the blue sky above us and the warm summer sun on our backs. And we all will thank God to be Americans. We hope you and Betty and all of your extended family are safe and well.
Gods speed, Edgar and Donna Keuling

Hi Brad, I got laid off because of the quarantine and then they closed all the recreational fishing seasons the next day. Now’s a god time to start tying and filling my Madison boxes for this summer. Hope this doesn’t hurt your recreational businesses to bad. Still excited to see you and the crew this summer if all works out. Stay safe.
